Joe Torre
New York Yankees manager Joe Torre's job is still in jeopardy after the Yankees were defeated by the Indians 3 games to 1 in the AL divisional series. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner publicly said that he probably wouldn't bring Torre back if the Yankees failed to make the AL Championship Series. I find this ridiculous, Torre has earned the right to leave on his own terms. He doesn't deserve to be fired or let go after his contract expires. In my opinion the Yankees shouldn't be thinking about letting him go, they should leave it up to him and if he wants to leave, then he can on his own terms. The Yankees have made the playoffs every year Torre has been their manager and have won the division 10 out of the 12 years Torre has been manager. The Yankees have won four World Series titles under Torre. Which includes the strech in which the Yankees won four out of five World Series from 1996-2000. Overall they reached the World Series six times, which includes the period from 1996-2003 when they appeared in six out of eight World Series. Those numbers are unbelieavable and I feel they warrant a contract extension for Torre and whatever his demands are. Torre has become one of the staples of the Yankee franchise along with Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera and many see him as the heart and soul of the franchise. Although I dislike the Yankees a lot, I do believe that Joe Torre is one of the greatest managers of all time and deserves to be treated with a lot more respect by the Yankees.

Kevin - You have some excellent ideas and I completely agree with you. I also feel that the players for the Yankees agree with us too. His numbers are unbelievable. He is well known and he has proven himself to be a great manager. I am curious if something happened off the field between Steinbrenner and Torre to want to make this change since it came out of nowhere. The players have made a statement about this issue. Some players that care about Torre have made it clear that if he is gone, they are gone. If Torre means that much to the players, something is wrong. All these good players will leave if he leaves. There shouldn't still be a consideration. Torre really is the heart and soul. His players are great but he puts them in the position to win. This issue shouldn't be talked about anymore. I feel that if Steinbrenner is really thinking about Torre leaving then Steinbrenner should be the one gone.
I agree with you that Torre should be aloud to make the choice if he wants to stay or leave. With all the success he has had over the past decade in New York the Yankees should be happy with that. I’m pretty sure any other time in that time frame would have loved a manager like Torre and would most likely let him do what ever he wants to do. I know as an Indians fan I would have loved to have a manager like Torre to take the Indians to the World Series and win them not lose them like the Indians manger. So I think that Torre should come back to the Yankees.
I also agree with you in the fact that Joe Torres decision to stay or go should really be up to him. Those numbers that you state like going to six out of eight world series is absolutely incredible. There should be no reason that he shouldn't be re-hired. He does his job every single year and does it well. He gets them to the playoffs and tries to get them to the world series to win it. It's not only up to him though and I think that is how the Yankees see it but he has no control on how his team performs like A-Rod who always has a bad post-season.
